The Origins of Colour Names

Art History Week We can't deny that colours are everywhere around us. Anything and everything that surrounds us has a colour, a tint, a hue to it. All humans, no matter the language they speak, have come up with names for the variety of colours nature offers. But where do the colour names come from? Is there a reason why green is called green and not a completely different word? Colours everywhere! But why those names? Artist: Jane Blundell In this article, we'll try to introduce you to the origin of colour names by explaining some of the most common colours. Let's get started! :eager: The little bitter or yellow in Spanish Amarillo (ye

Dev_Group_List2 update

I continued working on dev_group_list 2. Most notably it now includes a macro feature. Macros allow you to post the deviation to multiple groups at previously decided folders at once. You need to click on the "Collection" title to access the macro-modus. There it behaves similar to the collections: use + in the top to add a new macro and • in the macro to start recording. While recording it will remember all groups and folders you submit your deviation to (even if submitting is not possible, e.g. already inside). When you click on the macro name, you get a confirmation prompt with the list of groups. Once confirmed, it will start sub

Project Educate: How To Critique Fan Fiction

Fan Fiction Week Welcome to the next installment of projecteducate (https://www.deviantart.com/projecteducate) 's efforts, a whole week about fanfiction! :la: One of the biggest misconceptions about the fanfic community is that fanfiction is written just for the writer's own pleasure, to appease a fantasy, and so on; implying that fanfiction writers don't really care about growing as a writer and improving their skills. That's not only generalizing and offensive, but flat out wrong. Like for any other types of writing, a big part of the community will not care for feedback or critique (for any reason, from fair to plain childish), but there is always a niche of writers who thrives

Seniority Announcement: January 2020

Seniority has been a cornerstone of DeviantArt since the site's early years, and is a community award given to deviants who have made their mark on the community. These outstanding deviants have been recognized for their level of interaction, helpfulness with others, kindness, sincerity, and many other traits. These deviants can be recognized by the medal icon that appears next to their username, and in 19 years, less than 2,000 deviants have received Seniority. The following five deviants, having shown a kindred spirit that has led to continued positive community interaction and involvement, are the most recent recipients of Seniority. Please join us in congratulating them! @Null-Entity @Null-Entity is a long time stock provider for the community, with a gallery of over 4,000 reference and stock images for people to use when creating, and on top of that, he brings cheer and good humor wherever he goes around the community. @Andorada A force of positivity in the community

Thank you for DeviantArt

Though there have been times where maybe decisions on how to manage the site messed up and sometimes people are right to get mad at changes, I have talked to a few staff members before and closely followed in `spyed (https://www.deviantart.com/spyed)'s words and realized that there's still a whole lot of love put into this community. I have things to complain about, yes, but I am also thankful that I have this site, the only art site where I feel like everything is about having fun and procastinating with art, where art is encouraged with child spirit and I am allowed to do whatever I want with it even if the community has gotten so butthurt it makes you want to leave so

Thank You dA Staff

Suggesting DDs 2: Community Viewpoint Part 1

In Part 1 of this article, I went over my personal perception and preferences for Suggesting Daily Deviations. Having suggested DDs for years, to different people with different likes and dislikes, it has been fun and interesting finding out what the past and present Community Volunteers like to feature. But since I am by no means the only one who loves to suggest, I have asked for other deviants' input in this activity we share. I want to thank Andorada (https://www.deviantart.com/andorada), craftsbyblue (https://www.deviantart.com/craftsbyblue), Catgirldstr11 (https://www.deviantart.com/catgirldstr11), GeorgeXVII (https://www.deviantart.com/georgexvii), LukasFractalizator (https://www.deviantart.com/lukasfractalizator), Minato-Kushina (https://www.deviantart.com/minato-kushina), psoty (https://www.deviantart.com/psoty), and RAMWOC87 (https://www.deviantart.com/ramwoc87) for joining me in this. Admins needed to help vote on submissions

Dear members, We are looking for new admins to help us vote on submissions. If you regularly suggest Daily Deviations and feel you have a good handle on the quality of artwork that is typically featured as a Daily Deviation, send us a note with the following information: 1. What type of artwork you have expertise in (digital art, photography, literature, etc.) 2. Five thumbnails of artwork you believe is Daily Deviation worthy (these of course cannot already be DDs, and should not already be in our group gallery) :star: If we have not replied to your application within 14 days, it unfortunately means we have decided to go with someone els
